Choose Paris Region, the Paris Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Institut Paris Region have published the 2024 edition of Facts and Figures about Paris Region, which highlights the region's key assets. This publication, which is available in English, paints a picture of a dynamic, innovative and sustainable region. Selection.


23.2% of jobs in France

As the country's leading economic region, Paris Region accounts for nearly a quarter of the country's jobs, i.e. 6.7 million. The tertiary sector is heavily represented, with the majority of jobs in services (88%), far ahead of industry (6%) and construction (5%). A breeding ground for talent, the region is home to 34% of France's executives. Between 2017 and 2021, 75,650 jobs a year were created, a reflection of the region's dynamism.


793,820 students

With 16 universities set up across the region, 78 grandes écoles - including 38 engineering schools - and dozens of business schools, Paris Region is a major draw for French and international students. 135,475 foreign students, mainly from Africa, Europe and Asia, have chosen the region for their studies. This training offer is also reflected in the population's level of education: 44% of adults in the region have at least a bachelor's degree.


1,458,990 companies

The headquarters of France's biggest companies, small and medium-sized businesses, start-ups... Paris Region is home to almost 1.5 million companies. Thanks to a strong support policy driven by the Region, 8,600 start-ups and 28 unicorns have chosen to start or continue their adventure here.


21,700 M€ invested in research and development

Paris Region is at the forefront of innovation and invests more in research and development (R&D) than any other region in Europe. 70% of the investment is made by private companies, 30% by public research institutes such as CNRS and INSERM, which are highly positioned in international rankings.


76% of the region covered by green spaces

Paris Region is also a region with an unparalleled quality of life: vast green spaces, numerous parks, waterways... 50% of the 4,633 square miles (12,000 km2) of the territory is covered by farmland and 26% by forests. Biodiversity is preserved in the heart of protected areas such as the Fontainebleau forest and the Vexin regional nature park.
